West Michigan Soccer unveils the new Athletic Club Grand Rapids. The team name for the MLS NEXT Pro team coming to Amway Stadium in 2027.

Athletic Club Grand Rapids Crest

Grand Rapids has officially entered the professional soccer stage with the unveiling of Athletic Club Grand Rapids (AC Grand Rapids), West Michigan’s first MLS NEXT Pro team. The announcement, celebrated at Calder Plaza with fans, families, and community members, represents the start of a movement uniting neighborhoods, players, and supporters around the world’s game.

A Moment for the City

The launch of AC Grand Rapids is a cultural milestone for the city. Chairman, CEO, and co-owner David Van Andel noted, “AC Grand Rapids isn’t just a logo or a jersey. It’s a symbol of who we are and what we’re building together here in West Michigan. This isn’t branding for branding’s sake – it’s a reflection of a city that thrives on creativity, craftsmanship, and community.”

The Meaning Behind the Crest

Designed in partnership with Matthew Wolff Design, the crest is a bold and timeless emblem rooted in local identity. The Grand River flows through its center, represented by a striking navy-blue stripe, symbolizing both the heart of the city and the lifeblood of the club. Its typography and banner style pay homage to the region’s 19th-century lumber industry, while its modern flair gives fans a fresh identity to rally behind.

Co-owner Dan DeVos said during the reveal, “A team’s name and crest carry the heartbeat of a city, the voice of its fans and the dreams of its players.” This identity represents the pride and resilience of Grand Rapids, woven together through history, creativity, and the unshakable energy of its people.

What Fans Can Expect

While AC Grand Rapids won’t take the pitch until the 2027 MLS NEXT Pro season, the journey has already started. Between now and kickoff, the club plans to connect with fans through community events, engagement opportunities, and plenty of soccer-centric celebrations. The team will make its home at the new Amway Stadium on the Westside, giving Grand Rapids a downtown soccer destination along the riverfront.

This is the beginning of something bigger than one team. It’s about creating remarkable matchday experiences, developing homegrown talent, and elevating soccer across West Michigan.
