July 2025 Riverfront Construction Update: Where Dreams Take Shape

What’s news on the Grand Rapids Riverfront and how it is transforming downtown.

From the rush of the Grand River to the evolving downtown skyline, Grand Rapids is alive with progress. Each month, projects across the city move forward, creating more places to connect, explore, and thrive.

Here’s the latest from the GR& Riverfront:

1. Canal Park

Transformation is in full swing at Canal Park. While it might look like crews are just moving dirt, a closer look reveals the early foundations of new and improved walkways and trails. This is a space to watch as anticipation builds for its grand reopening next summer.

2. 111 Lyon

It may not look like much from the outside, but inside 111 Lyon, construction is full steam ahead. Several floors of former office space are being reimagined into mixed-income housing, helping to create a more vibrant and inclusive downtown community.

3. Grand Rapids Public Museum

Construction continues at the Grand Rapids Public Museum, where accessibility upgrades are underway. These improvements are designed to ensure that every visitor, regardless of ability, can experience the region’s rich history in a more welcoming, inclusive space.

4. Amway Stadium

Over on the west side, crews are hard at work preparing the site of the future Amway Stadium. Grading and foundational work have begun, laying the groundwork for what will become a major hub for sports fans and families under the Michigan skies.

5. Acrisure Amphitheater

The Acrisure Amphitheater is taking shape rapidly. External structures, including ticketing, restrooms, concessions, and parking, are well underway. With its dynamic design and stunning riverfront views, this venue will soon become a new cultural heartbeat for Grand Rapids.

Looking Ahead

This is just the beginning. From housing to heritage, from parks to performance spaces, the GR& Riverfront transformation is connecting people to the heart of the city.
